Sergeant Craig E. Drury
Craig died in the line of duty at the age of 24 on September 5,
1994 while on duty. He died as a result of injuries suffered while
battling an intentionally set house fire on August 24th of that
year. This crime still remains unsolved. Craig grew up in the department
along side his father Ted, a former Highview Chief. He was a great
softball player and was well known throughout the community. If
anyone has any information on the Mount Washington Road fire, please
contact the Jefferson County Police Arson Unit or Crime Stoppers
and help bring closure to this matter. You may reach the Arson Unit

may be dialed as collect calls. There is a reward leading to an
arrest.

Donald Z. Manuel
Don died at the age of 65 on November 24, 1996 while on duty. Don
was a 27-year veteran of the Highview Fire District. He died from
a heart attack suffered on the scene of a furnace fire at his own
church. Don was very active in his church and was fond of practicing
martial arts. He was known throughout the community and his presence
was enjoyed by all Highview firefighters.

Sergeant John McCain
John was an active firefighter from 1982 to 1995. He then assumed the
role of Assistant Crusade Coordinator. His devotion to the WHAS
Crusade for Children and his love of street rods was legendary.
John passed away on February 27, 2001 from a sudden heart attack.
The Highview Fire District and its community will sorely miss his
smile and his dedication.

Colonel Robert J. (Joe) Stark, Sr.
December 11, 1911 – October 6, 2005
Joe joined as a volunteer firefighter in 1950, was named Chief in January 1954 and retired as the Chief in 1987. He was well known and well liked throughout the community. Joe and his wife Wanda owned and operated the old B & F Food Center, on Beulah Church Road at Fegenbush Lane, and Joe drove a school bus for 35 years. Joe’s leadership and dedication are credited for the progress the Highview Fire District has made in firefighting and public service. He laid a firm foundation on which we still build on today. He is survived by his son Robert J. (Corky) Stark Jr. who also retired as a Highview Volunteer Firefighter with over 20 years of service. |
