It's been a long time coming, but they are here... The Highview Fire District now has its very own Honor Guard Team. Firefighter Eric Rosenfelder & Captain Jim French have stepped up and taken Command of the newly formed team.
Firefighter Eric Rosenfelder, a West Point graduate, along with Captain Jim French, a former U.S. Marine, have worked together to schedule all of the trainings and activities. Although the team is relatively new, they have been practicing very hard each week and the team has already been put to work.
On September 11, 2002 a ceremony was held at the firehouse on Fegenbush Lane to honor those who died in the line of duty in 2001. The team was assembled and showed off their stuff. "They made us all proud," said Chief Rick Larkins, "I guess that means I now have to buy them new uniforms." As promised the team now has new uniforms with bright shinny buttons and badges.
The team also performed during the firefighter's awards banquet, which was help in December of 2002. However, they have just participated in their first National Honor Guard Competition in Indianapolis, Indiana during the Fire Department Instructor's Conference where they placed 4th overall, missing 3rd place by two tenths of a point. They also posted the colors during a countywide firefighter recuit graduation and a firefighter's wedding ceremony.
If you have a function that you would like our Honor Guard Team to perform at, please contact Chief Rick Larkins for the team's availability.
