The Results of Crusade 2010

The peacefulness has once again settled back into the firehouse. The apparatus have been cleaned and returned to service waiting for the next call. Everything is returning to a somewhat normal state after a week of walking the streets and knocking on doors. Crusade is over but we reflect on the wonderful experience that brought our community together for a great cause.

It was truly a busy week for the department and the community. We started our door to door collections on Tuesday night. Trying to stay ahead and making sure that every door got knocked on was the responsibility of Lt. Paul Weber and Major Jack Stauble. This requires a lot of coordination and planning with the short amount of time that we have to do it in. The loaded fire trucks with kids and families made collecting fun for all ages.

Taking a break from the roadblock

The roadblock crews started on Tuesday morning and continued daily until Saturday night at the intersection of Outer Loop and Old Shepherdsville Road. The crews had a great time with visits to the road from Spiderman, Superman, and even a couple of clowns. There were plenty of sunburns and tired feet by the end of the week.

Getting ready to be on t.v.

On June 6, 2010, the Highview Fire Department made its annual trip to WHAS studios to get its spot in line for the money drop off. A handful of apparatus and an abundance of kids spent a couple of hours waiting for the opportunity to be on television. When our number was called, Chief Dave Goldsmith led the introductions and thanked the community, firefighters, and volunteers for all of the hard work they put in. The Crusade Committee, led by Lt. Ty Carver, was introduced and was the major key in the development of all of our Crusade activities. Lt. Carver thanked all of our food sponsors that helped throughout the week. Next, Lt. Col. Rob Dwyer and Major James Peden, read the money donations. Finally, we got to the moment everyone was waiting for. Board Member Bud Harbsmeier was given the honor of announcing our total of $122,191.02. This surpassed our goal of $100,000.00.

Overall, this Crusade went extremely well for Highview. We would like to extend a thank you to the community and businesses for all of the support that was provided during the past year. Of course, we can’t forget our firefighters and volunteers who come out and dedicate their time for a wonderful cause. If not for all this assistance, the results would not be as great. Thanks again and we look forward to another successful Crusade year.
